What is your business all about?

Young Artists' Place is a visual arts studio in South Burnaby. Located at the intersection of Royal Oak and Rumble, the studio offers art classes to kids and teens in Burnaby and the greater Vancouver area.

Focus on practical techniques & creative decision-making: We focus on teaching use of tools, as well as fundamental drawing and painting skills. When students gain confidence and the feeling of mastery over art tools and techniques, they can use these tools to express their own style and artistic voice more authentically, rather than only being able to make copies of other’s drawings.

In a typical lesson, students are encouraged to take ownership and make their own creative decisions about subject matter or composition, while at the same time practicing the art techniques we talked about.

An artist's perspective: The artistic process (brainstorming, planning, decision-making) is integrated into classes, and students are encouraged to practice problem-solving and self-expression. Our instructors are all practicing artists who are highly committed to our craft, and we demonstrate and share our own techniques.

Communication & flexibility: We get to know students as people and as artists, and listen to their needs. If there’s anything specific we can do to create a more safe & positive art-making environment for your child, please let Janice know.

Small class sizes. Young Artists’ Place classes generally have 4-6 students. We cap classes at 8 students maximum.
